My holiday

On the 24th of September i went to my aunty Rozannas funeral in Gisborne. We spent one night at the funeral and we watched movies on my brothers laptop at night. The next day we went to Opotiki because thats were my dad lives. And we spent three weeks with my dad and we went shopping in Whakatane at Kmart. When we went shopping we got one hundred dollars each to spend at Kmart. My brother got shirts, jumpers and other stuff and i got stuff i really needed for me. After we went to Kmart we still had a little bit of money left so we went to the Number one shoe house and got us some shoes. When we were in Opotiki we stayed with my cousins just down the road from my dads house. We sometimes went to go to school with my cousins Hineani, Iki and Rihari. Their school was a Maori school. They would always have to speak te reo to their teachers. We also went to a 21st birthday in Whakatane. That was my mum, brothers, sister and I who went to the birthday, but my dad didn't come because he was sick. At the birthday people were dancing, singing and they also made up speeches. When we had a kai the kids had to go on the kids table and the parents had to go on the parents table. The kids got lots of nice food like kfc, dominoes and we had fried bread and big huge lolly bags and we also had desert. After all of the stuff we did in Opotiki we went home and then we went to my big brother 'Te Manawa' birthday. We had a great time there in Opotiki. Natalie.

What a busy term we have had and hasn’t it just flown by.
We all enjoyed learning about dog safety in weeks 1 & 2 and the visit by the Police dogs.

Cross Country training was well underway by then, and everyone that participated tried their very best, and a great day was had by all. Cory secured a 4th place in the Yr 5 boy’s race and Natalie a 2nd place in the Yr 5 girls. Both were qualifiers for the next stage ‘Group Day’.

Daffodil Day followed in Week 4 and all who participated thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Tennis lessons with the wonderful Waiuku Tennis Club Coach “Ron” begun around the same time, and Room 12 loved learning new skills and being out in the sun, whilst getting fit and having fun.

The Life Education bus arrived a week later, with Harold ready to educate us about ‘Healthy Hearts’. It was a lot of fun, and we learnt heaps about how our internal organs work together and how to keep ourselves healthy.

And of course after lots of preparation and build up, the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony was finally upon us, and what a fabulous day we all had, and continue to have as long as there is rugby games to track.

Room 12s Tennis with Ron .................................................................................................................
I learnt that it is really important to have a good grip on the tennis racket and make sure your body is side on when hitting the ball (Paige..............................).

I learnt about some of the rules and points scored when the ball hits the outside lines (Brayden).

I learnt that the ball has to hit the ground once before you hit it, and if it bounces twice you lose the point and it goes to the other person (Anthony..........................).

I liked the part when the partner is throwing the ball to the other partner (Matthew..................).

We learnt the correct way to bounce the ball then hit it (Devine........................).

Scoop and tap, tap, tap, tap
Scoop and tap with my bat
Scoop and whack, whack, whack, whack
Scroop and whack with my bat (Anthony................)

I learnt the correct standing position when hitting the ball (Katipa...................).

I learnt how to hit the ball from different angles (Nicola.............................).

I really enjoyed the part where the police officer was running and the dog chased him and bit him on the arm (Katipa)
I learnt that police dogs can look for explosives if the queen visits. That’s cool (Daniel)
I liked it how the dog walked around when he was trying to pick up the scent of where the dog handler had been. Because it really showed us how good these dogs are at sniffing, unlike some other dogs (Cory)

I liked it how the man picked up the dog really high, even though it

was really heavy and he nearly dropped it (Sam)
I liked the bit when the dog showed us how he could attack people if they tried to get away, especially the bit where the dog dragged the policeman on the ground (Nicola)
I liked it when the dog shook the persons hand, it was funny (Natalie)
I liked it how the police man told us that the dogs were really fast, but I can’t remember their speed (Devine)

I liked how the dogs were really obedient and listened to their master all the time (Brayden)
I liked it when the police dog followed the man around in circles that was cool (Paige)
When we were in the hall I liked it when the dog barked and when he shook his owners hand (Porsha)

Super Science on the Road

I really liked the part where they put the ring in the freezing cold liquid and the ring shrunk. I also liked the part where they pulled the chains down and the chair went up with someone sitting on it (Nicola.....).

I really enjoyed the part where they had an object like a torch which had a flame at the end and it burnt a hole through a piece of metal. I also enjoyed this spinning wheel which made revving car sounds when you spun it. I also like the spinning wheels one where 3 people had to spin the wheels to make the marbles go along the escalator. The mirror reflection of a skeleton was also cool. It was really cool (Cory.....).

I really like the bit where the milk truck went around the roundabout and roads. And I really like the one where the ping pong ball floats up in the air, because the moonhopper made the air come out of the tube which pushed the ping pong ball up. (Matthew...........).

I liked it when you held the microphone and pushed a button and you speak into the microphone and you can see a scale of how loud your voice is. I also really liked the button you could push to make the fire emergency sound. I also liked the bit where you got to touch the screen on the TV and things moved. Also the one where you rub your hands and touch the bottom of the themometor and bubbles came to the top. (Katipa.........).

When I was at the science fair I was using a metal detector. When you found metal a round gauge would move up. I was also doing this talking thing where you could talk into a thing and someone along way away could hear what you were saying. They could also talk into their one and I could hear what they were saying (Daniel...........).

I really enjoyed the one where you got to conduct the sounds by putting one hand on the volume button and the other hand you waved around which made quiet and loud noises. There was also this coool experiment where you held on to the handles and there is a straw that you rub onto the carpet and then you make the straw turn in circles.
